For those who have seen their routines, in the past you might have noticed that Joy’s unofficial dances were quite intricate and complicated. Well in the past year or so, they have now stepped away from that image of “maniacs” and now are creating routines that can be danced by the normal paralist. They’re pioneering a new generation of maniac paralists, and it seems that it’s targeted to the younger generation who have just hit the clubbing age. With new choreographers (Eripon, the former member of Charasen who was featured in Licoln with Bananaman Himura included), these dances are very normal looking, yet have the creative edge of maniac. They even recently had Mitsu choreograph “White Love” by Ace Warrior for them. You might know some of Mitsu’s routines, including Pilot Is The Hero, Dub-I-Dub, You Are My Paradise, Poison and countless others.
They started a new video series at the start of this year called Euro Town Paradise – 2nd Season. From this DVD it seems that they are going to continue to do mostly official looking routines, and I hope they keep it up. This DVD and routines were AMAZING, and I hope some of us Disco NRG members can re-film and share these sometime in the near future
It should be noted that because avex is taking routines from different parts of Japan, people (especially in Tokyo) do not have access to these routines until the DVDs are released. So in the mean time, they learn the JOY versions and dance them at events!! Nice way of alienating your audience, avex. But better for Joy and the maniacs.
